Who are Art in Tanzania?

Art in Tanzania is a Tanzanian - Finnish Non Governmental  organization (NGO). We began operating with a few grassroots projects in Tanzania in 2001. We have now grown into an organization which attracts around 1,500 volunteers and interns annually. We have 70 staff members plus around 100 volunteers and interns present in Tanzania at any one time, working on over 300 projects in Dar es Salaam, Moshi, Arusha, Masai land and Zanzibar.

 

How is Art in Tanzania funded?

Art in Tanzania is a self-sustainable NGO. We earn our funding from volunteering fees and safari operations, using the profits to fund community work and numerous other projects such as music production and magazine publishing.

 

Where does Art in Tanzania operate?

Art in Tanzania operates in Dar es Salaam, Moshi, Arusha, Masai Land and Zanzibar. We are also registered to operate in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia as Art in Ethiopia.

 

How much does it cost to volunteer or intern with Art in Tanzania?

Volunteering in mainland Tanzania costs US$230 per week, whilst internships cost US$240 per week (due to the more advanced supervision required). 

Volunteering/internships in Zanzibar costs US$250/260.

Volunteering/internships in Masai Land costs US$300/US$310.

The fee includes airport transfers, accommodation, breakfast and dinner, orientation, project guidance, 24 hour security and a dedicated team leader.

Volunteers also need to obtain a Class C Residence/Work permit (US$150) alongside purchasing a tourist entry VISA at immigration (US$50 except Irish and US nationals US$100).

 

What kind of projects does Art in Tanzania offer?

We have more than 300 placements in areas such as education, vocational training, medicine, sports, music, journalism, arts, construction and environmental projects. We value the input of all our volunteers, and are keen to tailor projects according to your skills .


How safe is Tanzania?

Tanzania is very safe country in which to travel. We have 24 hour security in our accomodation, and you can safely walk around almost anywhere with just a little common sense. Tanzanians are very welcoming to foreigners and eager to make friends. Pickpockets can be a common problem, but one easily avoided by keeping a good eye on your belongings.
